DESCRIPTION:
Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger are popular in process industries because they occupy less space and offer reasonable temperature drop. The apparatus consists of fabricated shell, inside which tubes with baffles on outer side are fitted. The present set up is a 1-2 heat exchangers, with cold water flows through shell. Valves are provided to control the flow rates of hot and cold water. Flow rates of hot and cold water are measured using Rotameters. A magnetic drive pump is used to circulate the hot water from a re-cycled type water tank, which is fitted with heater and Digital Temperature Controller.
EXPERIMENTATION:
The main object of the experimental setup is to study the following at various flow rates:

Heat transfer rate
Overall Heat Transfer Co-efficient.
UTILITIES REQUIRED
Water supply 20 lit/min (approx.) and drain.
Electricity Supply: 1 Phase, 220 V AC, 4 kW.
Floor area of 1.5 m x 0.75 m.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
System: Water to Water. (1 – 2 shell & tube type)
Shell: Material Stainless steel. Insulated with ceramic wool and cladded with aluminum foil.
Dia. 220 mm, Length 500 mm (Approx.) 25% cut baffles at 100 mm distance 4 Nos.
Tube : OD 16mm approx., Length 500mm (24 Nos.)
Water Flow Measurement  Rota meters (2Nos.) one each for cold & hot fluid.
Hot Water Tank Made of Stainless steel Insulated with ceramic fibre wool.
Hot Water Circulation : Magnetic Pump
Heater: Nichrome wire heater.
Control panel comprising of:
Digital Temp. Controller: 0-199.90C, (For Hot Water Tank)
Digital Temp. Indicator: 0-199.90C, with multi-channel switch
Temperature sensors: RTD PT-100 type.
With Standard make On/Off switch, Mains Indicator etc.
Instruction Manual : An ENGLISH instruction manual will be provided along with the Apparatus A good quality painted rigid MS Structure is provided to support all the parts
 
 

LATERAL EXTENSOMETER
 

LONGITUDINAL COMPRESSOMETER
 Description:
It is designed for finding out the deformation and strains on 15cms. Diameter and 30cms high cement concrete cylinders when subjected to compressive loads. 
 
Specification:
Consists of a frame with a bottom ring and a top ring with tightening screws to firmly clamp the compressometer over the cylinder.
A dial gauge .002mm x 12mm is mounted on the upper ring and the tip of the dial gauge rests on an anvil.
The zero of the dial gauge can be set by adjusting the anvil screw.
Supplied in a wooden carrying case.
 

LENGTH COMPARATOR
Description:
It is used to measure the drying shrinkage of concrete autoclave expansion of Portland cement and potential expansive reactivity of cement aggregate combinations in mortar bars during storage, on self drying. 
 
Specification:
Consists of a frame with a bottom ring and a top ring with tightening screws to firmly clamp the compressometer over the cylinder.
A dial gauge .002mm x 12mm is mounted on the upper ring and the tip of the dial gauge rests on an anvil.
The zero of the dial gauge can be set by adjusting the anvil screw.
Supplied in a wooden carrying case.
 

VOLUME CHANGE APPARATUS
 Description:
The Instrument is used for determining the volume change of cement concrete. 
 
Specification:
The apparatus comprises of one mould 100mm x 100mm x 250mm, effective gauge length complete with base plate, Four reference pins, One length comparator frame, One stainless steel reference bar with insulated grip, and one dial gauge, 0.02mm x 10mm.
