RECIPROCATING PUMP TEST RIG (VARIABLE SPEED WITH SWINGING FIELD DYNAMOMETER
DESCRIPTION:
The present Reciprocating Pump Test Rig is a self-contained unit operated on closed circuit basis containing a sump tank. The set-up consists of a Double acting, Single Cylinder Reciprocating Pump coupled with a swinging frame type DC Motor that permits direct torque measurement with the help of a spring balance. Power input to the DC Motor is varied by means of a Thyristor controlled DC Drive to vary the RPM of motor. A RPM Indicator with Proximity sensor indicates RPM of Pump. Flow of water is measured by using measuring tank and stop watch. Vacuum gauge is fitted on suction line and Pressure gauge is fitted on delivery line to measure pressure.
EXPERIMENTATION:
To determine total head, overall efficiency, pump efficiency and volumetric efficiency of the reciprocating pump.
To find out torque with the help of swinging frame motor.
To plot Graph: Head vs Discharge Pump efficiency vs Discharge.

DIRECT AND SIMPLE SHEAR APPARATUS
 Description:
The Direct Simple Shear (DSS) test is used to measure un-drained shear strength of soils to reflect the average shear strength mobilized in the field during failure of embankments on soft soil foundations and deep excavations in clay. The DSS test generates a fairly homogeneous state of shear stress throughout the specimen, which provides initial stress condition, stress path, and deformation configuration that models numerous field loading conditions more closely than any other test system.

EXTRACTOR FRAME HYDRAULIC
 Description:
This extractor Frame is used for taking out soil samples compacted or undisturbed, from 100 mm dia. and 150mm dia. Cylinders such as core cutters, Proctor moulds, C.B.R moulds etc.
 
Specification:
It consists of a 5 Ton capacity hand operated, hydraulic jack mounted on a suitable frame.
Two plungers, one for 100mm dia. and the other of 150mm dia. moulds are supplied.
One thrust plate for 150mm dia. and and one for 100 mm dia. specimens are also supplied.
Height of thrust plate is adjustable.
 

PERMEABILITY APPARATUS
 Specification:
•The equipment comprises one each: Gun metal mould, 100 mm I.D. x 127.3mm high x 1000ml volume.
•Gun metal mould extension collar, 100mm dia. x 60mm high for the above mould.
•Gun metal Drainage base plate with a recess for a porous stone and with an outlet valve.
•Metalic clamping ring.
•Gun metal drainage cap (top plate with a recess for a porous stone and fitted with an inlet valve and an air release valve).
•Gun metal dummy plate to serve as a false bottom during compaction.
•Porous stone for drainage cap. Porous stone for base plate. Set of glass stand pipes approximately 6mm dia.,
•10mm dia. and 20mm dia. mounted on a wooden board.
 

UNCONFINED COMPRESSION TEST APPARATUS
 Description:
The unconfined compression test is the simplest and quickest method for evaluation of the shear strength of cohesive soil in the laboratory or in the field. The results from compression test apparatus are widely used in ascertaining the relative consistency and sensitivity for estimating the ultimate bearing capacity.
 
 
Specification:
Consists of a spring operated load frame with arrangements for loading 38mm x 76mm samples, one set of four load springs of stiffness 0.2kg, o.4kg, 0.8kg and 1.6kg/mm, a calibrated mask and one set of 50 charts, in a metal carrying case.
 
Spares & Accessories:
Charts set of 50 Calibrated mask. Spring set comprising one each of stiffness 2N/mm, 4N/mm, 8N/mm and 16Nmm Coning toll for 38mm sample (female) Coning toll for 38 mm sample (male) Tripod stand wooden, for using the instrument in field.
