METACENTRIC HEIGHT APPARATUS

DESCRIPTION:
A pontoon is allowed to float in a small tank having a transparent side.  Removable steel strips placed in the model for the purpose of changing the weight of the model.  Displacement of weight is  measured with the help of a scale. By means of a pendulum (consisting of a weight suspended to a long pointer) the angle of tilt can be measured on a graduated arc.For tilting the ship model, a cross bar with movable hanger is fixed on the model.  Pendulum and graduated arc are suitably fixed at the center  of the cross bar.  A set of weights is supplied with the apparatus.
EXPERIMENTATION:
Determination of the metacentric height and position of the metacentric height with angle of heel of ship model.
UTILITIES REQUIRED :
Water Supply : Initial Fill
Floor Area 1 m x 0.6 m.
Drain required.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Pontoon: Size 300 x 300 mm (approx.) with a Horizontal Guide Bar for aliding weight and Removable Strips, Graduated Arc with Pointer with moveable hanger and set of weights.
Water Tank : Size 550 x 500x 400 mm (approx.)
Front Window of Tank: Made of Glass/Perspex.A set of weights is supplied with the apparatus.
Instruction Manual : An ENGLISH instruction manual will be provided along  with the Apparatus Tanks will be made of Stainless Steel.
Pendulum and graduated are for accurate measurement of Tilt angle.
 

RING AND BALL APPARATUS
 DESCRIPTION

Used for determining the temperature at which a bituminous material loaded by a 9.5 mm dia steel balls drops under specified heated conditions.

Magnetic stirrer with heating facility. Digital temperature display.

DUCTILITY TESTING MACHINE WITH DIGITAL TEMP INDICATOR
 DESCRIPTION

Used for determining the ductility of bitumen. Two rates of travel i.e. 5 cm/minand1cm/min.

Suitable for operation on 220 V, 50 Hz, Single Phase, AC supply.

Ductility Mould, with Base Plate …3 Nos. As per 1208 -1978.

·      The machine consists of a moving carriage that moves over a lead screw.

·      An electric motor driven reduction gear ascertains trouble-free and constant speed enabling continuous operation.

·      The whole assembly is mounted by a stainless steel water bath completely enclosed in a metal housing having glass wool insulation.

·      It is equipped with an electric pump circulator and a heater. Herein, the temperature is controlled thermostatically.

·      The machine is fitted with three ductility molds and has two rates of travel; 10 mm & 50 mm.


CENTER OF PRESSURE APPARATUS

DESCRIPTION :
The Centre of Pressure Apparatus has been designed to determine the static thrust exerted by a fluid on a submerged surface and allow comparison of the measured magnitude and position of this force with simple theory.A fabricated quadrant is mounted on a balance arm, which pivots on knife-edges. The knife-edges coincide with the centre of arc of the quadrant. Thus, of the hydrostatic forces acting on the quadrant when immersed, only the force on the rectangular end face gives rise to a moment about the knife-edges. The balance arm incorporates a balance pan for the weights supplied and an adjustable counterbalance. This assembly is mounted on top of an acrylic tank, which may be leveled by adjusting screwed feet. An indicator attached to the side of the tank shows when the balance arm is horizontal. Water is admitted to the top of the tank by a flexible tube and may be drained through a cock in the side of the tank. The water level is indicated on a scale on the side of the quadrant.
EXPERIMENTATION
Determining the centre of pressure on both a submerged or partially submerged plane surface and comparison with the theoretical position.

ELECTRICAL ANALOGY APPARATUS

DESCRIPTION: 
The apparatus is in two parts namely–
1. Experimental Setup
2. Analogue Field Plotter
The Experimental setup consists of a transparent tank of 400-450mm. area and 75 mm depth. In this tank the model under study is to be installed. The model is to be designed as per the requirements out of copper and Bakelite plates. A sample model arrangement will be given with setup.
 A Probe is mounted on a trolley, which can traverse in two planes fitted on tray to locate equipotential lines. X – Y Co-ordinates of the probe at each point can be located on the scale fitted on the cross slide.
Necessary potential can be given with the help of Analogue Field Plotter can be displayed on the meter provided.
