BATCH CRYSTALLIZER
 DESCRIPTION:
Crystallization is the formation of solid particles within a homogeneous phase of saturated liquid. Its wide use has a two-fold basis, a crystal formed from an impure solution is itself pure and crystallization affords a practical method of separating w. This operation involves both heat and mass transfer. Cooling type agitated batch crystallizer set up consists of an open jacketed stirred vessel provided with water heating & cooling arrangement. The feed is prepared in the crystallizer itself with hot water and stirrer. The hot saturated solution in the crystallizer is then cooled by circulation of cooling water and crystals are formed.

EXPERIMENTATION:          

To study the performance of a Batch Crystallizer.
To determine the crystal yield and the efficiency of crystallizer.
 UTILITIES REQUIRED:
Water Supply.
Drain.
Electricity Supply: 1 Phase, 220 V AC, 1.5 kW.
Required Chemicals.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:  
Crystallizer (Jacketed Type):Material Stainless Steel, Cap. 2 Ltrs. with conical bottom
Stirrer : FHP, Variable Speed.
Heater :Nichrome wire heater
Cooling Water Tank: Material Stainless Steel, Capacity 30 litre fitted with Pump.
Flow measurement: Rotameter for cooling water.
Pump : FHP.
Receiving Tank: Material Stainless Steel , Capacity 2 litre with SS sieve
Temp. Sensors:RTD PT-100 type.
Control panel comprises of :
Digital Temp. Indicator :0-199.90C with multi-channel switch and Standard make on/off switch, Mains Indicator etc.

SWENSON WALKER CRYSTALLIZER
 DESCRIPTION:
The set up consists of a glass column. Water is fed at the top of the column along the walls to make the column a wetted wall column. Hot air from heating chamber with known humidity is allowed to pass through the column vertically upward and evaporation in the liquid film around the wall takes place. The flow rates of water and air can be independently varied to simulate different conditions. Instrumentation is provided to measure the dry and wet bulb temperatures at air inlet and outlet.

To study the performance of a Swanson Walker Crystallizer.
To determine the crystal yield and the efficiency of crystallizer.
 UTILITIES REQUIRED:
Water Supply and Drain.
Electricity Supply: 1 Phase, 220 V AC, 3.5 kW.
Required Chemicals.
 TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Crystallizer Trough : Material Stainless Steel , Capacity 8 Ltrs. (Jacketed type)
Ribbon : Material Stainless Steel (for Trough).
Drive for Ribbon Mixer:FHP motor coupled with Reduction Gear box and Pulley arrangement to get 8 RPM approx.
Feed Tank :Made of Stainless Steel, Double Wall, insulated with ceramic Wool, Cap. 30 Ltrs. Fitted with Nichrome wire heaters.
Stirrer for Feed Tank : Stainless Steel Impeller and shaft driven by motor.
Feed Circulation : Magnetic Pump made of Polypropylene to Circulate feed. Maximum working temperature is 80°C.

WETTED WALL COLUMN
 DESCRIPTION:
The set up consists of a glass column. Water is fed at the top of the column along the walls to make the column a wetted wall column. Hot air from heating chamber with known humidity is allowed to pass through the column vertically upward and evaporation in the liquid film around the wall takes place. The flow rates of water and air can be independently varied to simulate different conditions. Instrumentation is provided to measure the dry and wet bulb temperatures at air inlet and outlet.
EXPERIMENTATION:
To determine the gas film coefficient in a wetted wall column using air-water system.
To find the mass transfer coefficient.
 UTILITIES REQUIRED:
Compressed Air Supply at 2 Bar, 4 CFM.
Water supply.
Drain.
Electricity Supply: 1 Phase, 220 V AC, 0.5 kW.

MASS TRANSFER WITH AND WITHOUT CHEMICAL REACTION
DESCRIPTION:                                                                                                     
The setup consists of a Reactor, in which solid cylinder of Benzoic Acid is placed and is stirred by means of a variable speed mixer. Baffles are also provided. The Reactor is made of Stainless Steel. Peltilizer is provided to make the solid cylinder of Benzoic Acid. Constant temperature water bath arrangement is provided to conduct the experiment at various temperatures.
EXPERIMENTATION:
Dissolution of Benzoic acid in water: Kinetic studies
Dissolution of Benzoic acid with reaction in aqueous NaOH solution.

ADSORPTION IN PACKED BED
DESCRIPTION:                                                                                                                                   
The set up consist of three vertical column packed with activated Charcoal. Columns are operated individually. Liquid feed with dye is fed to the individual column from the bottom and samples are collected from the top at regular interval of time. Rotameter is provided to measure the flow rate. Pump with a feed tank is provided for fluid flow.
EXPERIMENTATION:
To obtain the breakthrough curve and hence length of unused bed for the given adsorption system.

Bench Area: 1.2m x 1m.
